Needle Arts Corner - August 2010
Welcome to warm and toasty August. I just love this month! What better time to get out of the house and take in nature’s glory? All of those beautiful annuals are in bloom and the perennials are looking full and fine. You do not have to put on boots, hat, scarf, mittens and heavy coat to take a walk around the yard, a simple pair of sandals will do. Oh, and the smells! I just love the smells of summer, dried grass, ROSES, chlorine from the pool, sweaty kids and suntan lotion. You know that this can only be experienced in the beautiful month of August. Take a walk around your yard and see what I mean. Don’t have a yard? Then take a walk around Riverbend Farm or West Hill Dam areas, they are free and close by for your enjoyment. Get out there and live!
Another thing I like to do in August, as do many of my students here at the Studio, is clean out any unfinished projects and get geared up for the fall and winter season. This means opening the closets up and breaking out the bags of items that have gone to the side when life somehow calls your name and you have to take a break from them. Well, now the projects are calling…Unfinished needle work, quilt pieces, tops to be sent out and quilted, binding that is made up but not on the edge of the quilt. Hand stitching, mending and alterations lurking in a pile by the ironing board. Oh, you know that they are there! These are great things to tackle when it is too hot out and you have to stay in with the air conditioner. This is also prime time to get hopping on Holiday and birthday gifts, that way when you are pinched for time you will be able to pull out some cute and stress free items to wrap and give. Think about it!!
Where is Madonna?
Let me give you and short overview of where I have been and I shall proceed on with where I am going. This past spring, I attended MQX which was held in Providence this year. I found it very interesting as I had never gotten a chance to attend this event, being that it was customarily held in New Hampshire. I will be attending next year for sure. A couple of day trips have also highlighted the last few months, Mystic, CT., New York City, NY, Newport, RI, Rockport, MA to name a few. Then there are the larger trips like the Mystery Quilt weekend at Purity Spring Resort, Madison, NH and San Francisco, CA. The Mystery Quilt weekend is just a wonderful time to sew, eat and have a barrel of fun. California was wonderful as I was able to tour Napa and Sonoma regions of the state, with not only my traveling companions, but with my Aunt and Uncle as well. Yes, we had lots of wine! We also got a chance to tour San Francisco with my cousin Michael as the guide. He took us everywhere! Where am I going to now you say! I am planning to attend the Lowell quilt festival which will be held at the Tsongas Arena, Lowell, MA, August 11- 15th. Ryco Fabrics Teachers Tea which is to be held this September and of course back to Purity Spring Resort for our fall Mystery Quilt retreats! I will also be the guest speaker for the Silver City Quilt Guild this October. I hope to see some familiar faces at these events and look forward to meeting new people as well.
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the summer! Want to come learn to sew and quilt or tag along with us on one of our adventures? Contact me via my website, fabricaddition.net, send me an email at madonnaterlizzi@charter.net or follow me on "Facebook". Either way I look forward to hearing from you soon. Peace.
